On Children’s Day, the Chairwoman of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko, the Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova, and the Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko visited the National Medical Research Center for Cardiovascular Surgery named after A.N. Bakulev. They congratulated the center on its 70th anniversary, communicated with employees and patients, and also presented state awards.
“The history of the Bakulev Center is the history of the formation of domestic cardiac surgery. Over 70 years, more than 235 thousand people have been operated on at the center. Among them, over 138 thousand were operated on an open heart with the use of artificial circulation. Today, the center performs more open heart surgeries than any other medical institution in Europe,” said Tatyana Golikova.
The Vice Prime Minister noted that today the center employs more than 2,500 staff, including 527 doctors. Over decades of work, the center has developed a scientific school, graduates of which work in the country’s leading clinics.
“Not a single generation of doctors recalls that the acquaintance with cardiac surgeons began precisely with lectures, practice, and shifts at the Bakulev Center. This institution has a special historical role: it not only treats but also transfers its knowledge across the entire country. As the main scientific institution, the center coordinates the organization of cardiac surgical care in the federal district — from Central Russia to the North Caucasus, including historical regions of the country,” said the Vice Premier. She emphasized that reducing mortality from cardiovascular diseases is a strategic priority of the state policy of Russia.
The center is equipped with advanced modern diagnostic and therapeutic equipment. Here, diagnosis and treatment of the entire spectrum of cardiovascular system pathologies in patients of all age groups are carried out. Together with the head of the center, Elena Golubova, guests viewed an exhibition of medical devices developed and directly produced at the Bakulev Center — including devices for arrhythmology, implants, and simulators for cardiovascular surgery.
The event was also attended by Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Inna Svyatenko, Head of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency Veronika Skvortsova, Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Sciences Mikhail Piradov, heads and employees of the center, senators, scientists, and doctors.
