Moscow, June 1 /TASS/ — The heavy Russian nuclear missile cruiser “Admiral Nakhimov” has entered the final stage of testing after repair and modernization. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the press service of the Northern Fleet.
The cruiser “Admiral Nakhimov” of project 1144.2 is the largest surface ship in the Russian Navy with a displacement of more than 25 thousand tons. It is equipped with a nuclear power plant. The cruiser is intended for striking large surface targets, providing comprehensive air defense and anti-submarine defense.
The cruiser “Admiral Nakhimov” was built in the late 1980s. At the end of the 1990s, it was sent for repairs. Work to return it to the composition of the Russian Navy started in 2013. The modernization of the cruiser is being carried out at “Sevmash” in Severodvinsk. –0–
