Paris, May 31 /Xinhua/ — French President Emmanuel Macron on Sunday called for the swift achievement of an agreement between the USA and Iran, as well as for the renewal of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz without any conditions and in accordance with international law.

E. Macron announced on social media that he held talks with the Crown Prince, Saudi Arabia’s Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, Sultan of Oman Haitham bin Tariq Al Said, President of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and President of Egypt Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.

He noted that he conveyed the same message to all these leaders, emphasizing that the United States and Iran should urgently reach an agreement.

According to the President of France, the priority is to ensure a ceasefire regime and the opening of the Strait of Hormuz without any conditions and in accordance with international law. After this, negotiations should be continued in order to reach a comprehensive and lasting agreement on other issues, in particular such as Iran’s nuclear and missile programs and stability in the region.

E. Macron added that France is ready to play its role, including within the framework of the multinational initiative that it leads together with the United Kingdom, to ensure the security of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. –0–
