Valletta, May 31 /Xinhua/ — Malta’s Labour Party won the early parliamentary election on Sunday, securing a fourth consecutive term.
The leader of the Labour Party, Prime Minister of Malta Robert Abela, said in an interview with local media that the party has made history by achieving a fourth consecutive victory. He noted that now the party will begin to implement its election program and called for national unity.
The General Secretary of the opposition Nationalist Party, Charles Bonello, confirmed the defeat of his party during the vote counting session. According to local media, the results show that the Labour Party won the elections with a margin of about 18 thousand votes, he added.
The leader of the Nationalist Party, Alex Borg, published a video message on social networks in which he said that he congratulated Mr. Abela on his victory by phone.
