Jerusalem, May 31 /Sina/ — The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Sunday reported the capture of a strategic fortress in southern Lebanon.
The IDF statement says that Israeli ground forces entered the area of the Bofor and Wadi-Saluki trenches in southern Lebanon.
Israeli TV channels Kan TV News and Channel 12 News reported that IDF took over a ridge, including a strategically important fortress at its summit. This operation was called the deepest Israeli incursion into Lebanese territory in the last 26 years. The channels also showed a photograph in which an Israeli flag is seen waving atop the ancient fortress.
According to the IDF, the goal of the offensive is to eliminate the military infrastructure of the “Hezbollah” group and to destroy militants to protect the population of Galilee and the northern border town of Metula.
In a separate statement, the CIAHAAH said that on Saturday evening an Israeli soldier was killed as a result of a strike by a drone with explosives, launched by “Hezbollah” in southern Lebanon. –0–
