New York, May 29 /Xinhua/ — China highly values Uruguay’s adherence to the One-China principle and will support the country in safeguarding its sovereignty, security, and development interests. This was stated on Thursday by a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi, during a meeting with his Uruguayan counterpart Mario Lubetkin in New York.

Van I noted that maturity, stability, and predictability are distinctive features of Chinese-Uruguayan relations since the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

According to him, China is ready, together with Uruguay, to properly implement the consensus reached by the heads of the two states, activate contacts at a high level, deepen cooperation in all areas, and elevate the China-Uruguay comprehensive strategic partnership to a new level.

Noting that Uruguay is currently chairing the “Group of 77 plus China” on a rotating basis, Van Yi stated that China is ready to strengthen multilateral coordination with Uruguay to promote an equal and orderly multipolar world, as well as a universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization.

M. Lubetkin in turn stated that Uruguay is ready to cooperate with China and use its role as the rotating chair in the “Group of 77 plus China” to promote UN reforms.

He emphasized that Uruguay firmly adheres to the one-China policy and is ready, together with China, to strengthen contacts at a high level and expand cooperation in areas such as trade, finance, energy, cultural and humanitarian exchanges, as well as science and technology, in order to continuously develop a comprehensive bilateral strategic partnership.
