The Hague, May 28 /Xinhua/ — The International Criminal Court (ICC) announced on Wednesday that it has set the start of the trial of former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte for November 30, 2026.

“The date was set by the /Third Judicial/ Chamber following the final meeting on this and other issues related to the preparation of the process,” the ICJ statement says.

As noted, the chamber considered the statements of the prosecution, the defense, and other legal representatives, as well as the time required to present evidence and related materials.

The MUS added that before the start of the trial, the chamber will consider all unresolved issues and activate the procedures necessary to ensure a fair and prompt trial.

On April 23, the ICC confirmed all three charges of “crimes against humanity” against R. Duterte and decided to commence legal proceedings.

R. Duterte served as the President of the Philippines from 2016 to 2022. In March 2025, the politician was arrested and handed over to the International Criminal Court based on a warrant issued in connection with his anti-drug campaign. R. Duterte disputed this decision. His first court appearance took place on March 14, 2025. On November 28, 2025, the ICC rejected an appeal demanding the release of the ex-president due to his advanced age and deteriorating health condition.
