In Moscow, there was a solemn unveiling of a monument to the statesman Major General Yuri Evgenievich Maksarev, Hero of Socialist Labor. The monument is installed in the Dorogomilovo district at the address: Berezhkovskaya Embankment, building 24, structure 12.

“The monument is dedicated to a person of remarkable destiny, who equally glorified our country on the battlefield — thanks to the introduction of the world’s first flow-line conveyor production for the assembly of the legendary T-34, and in peaceful life — through the development of patent law and intellectual property rights. His figure, leaning over the blueprints near the tank turret, — is a symbol of the unity of design thought and production feat,” noted the head of the Department of Cultural Heritage

Aleksey Emelyanov.

The monument is made of bronze by an artistic team under the direction of the people’s artist sculptor of the Russian Federation A.N. Kovalchuk. The composition represents a figure of Yuri Evgenievich Maksarev, focused on studying documents and drawings, next to the turret of a T-34 tank. This artistic solution is not accidental: it embodies two main aspects of the life of the statesman — the organization of mass production of the legendary combat vehicle and the development of an intellectual property system as a basis for technological progress.

The initiators of the monument installation were the Federal Service for Intellectual Property, the joint-stock company “Scientific and Production Corporation ‘Uralvagonzavod'”, and the All-Russian Public-State Organization “Russian Military-Historical Society”.

Representatives of federal and capital authorities, mass media, public and veteran organizations, Muscovites and guests of the capital took part in the opening ceremony.

Yuri Evgenyevich Maksarev is a state and public figure, a holder of seven orders of Lenin, two orders of the Red Banner of Labor, the Orders of the October Revolution, Suvorov I degree, and Kutuzov II degree. He gained high authority and wide recognition thanks to managing factories that produced the famous T-34 tanks, which glorified Soviet weaponry during the Great Patriotic War. From 1938 to 1941, he held the position of director of tank factory No. 183 in Kharkov, where he made a significant contribution to the start of mass production of the legendary combat vehicle. In 1941–1942 he headed the tank factory named after the Comintern in Nizhny Tagil. From 1942 to 1946, he led the Ural tank factory No. 183 named after I.V. Stalin, where he organized the serial production of tanks and widely implemented the new welding technologies of academician E.O. Paton.

For outstanding merits in mastering production, designing, and skillful management of factories, Yuri Evgenievich Maksarev was awarded the title of Hero of Socialist Labor with the presentation of the gold medal “Sickle and Hammer” and the Order of Lenin.
