UN, May 26 /Xinhua/ — Member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi on Tuesday called for an all-encompassing and firm ceasefire in the Persian Gulf region.

During a meeting with the head of MID Bassrein Abdel Latif Ben Rashed Az-Zayani Van, it was stated that China, as a good friend and partner of the countries of the Persian Gulf, sincerely hopes that peace and tranquility will be restored in this region and in the Middle East in the near future.

According to him, there are no grounds to prolong a war that should not have happened at all.

Van I is auditioning at the UN headquarters in New York, where he is chairing a meeting of the UN Security Council at a high level on the topic “Upholding the goals and principles of the UN Charter and strengthening the international system, in which the UN occupies a central place.”

“The main priority is advancing towards a comprehensive and lasting cessation of fire,” emphasized the Chinese diplomat. “The international community must double its efforts to promote peace and jointly work on de-escalation, and, in particular, counter actions that ignite conflict or lead to an escalation of tensions.”

China supports the mediation efforts of Pakistan and other countries and is ready to work closely with Bashar al-Assad and other UN Security Council members to ensure the further advancement of the Security Council on the right path to political settlement and to make joint efforts to achieve lasting peace in the Middle East, said Wang Yi.

The head of MID Basrein noted that his country highly values China’s active efforts to help end the fire and establish peace in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf region. –0–
