Guangzhou, May 27 /Xinhua/ — As of 20:21 on Monday, the electrical load in the network of the company “China Southern Power Grid Company” /China Southern Power Grid Company/ updated the historical maximum, breaking the previous record by 1.83 million kW and violating the seasonal pattern, according to which peak loads in the period from 2020 to 2025 were usually observed in June and July.
This company supplies electricity to the province of Guangdong, Yunnan, Guizhou, Hainan, and the Guangxi-Zhuang Autonomous Region. The unprecedented surge indicates the emergence of a clearly expressed new structural feature of electricity consumption in these regions.
The head of the operational planning department of the energy dispatch center of the energy supply system management of the mentioned company Li Zhiyun explained this earlier than in previous years, a multi-factor resonance surge caused by significantly earlier than usual high air temperatures in the southern regions of China, industrial production at a stable level and at full capacity, as well as an increase in demand for consumption from households.
According to Li Zhiyun, the high-tech manufacturing sector and the new energy sources industry have switched to a round-the-clock mode, while data processing centers and overnight charging of electric vehicles have changed the demand structure, which has led to a restructuring of the load pattern on the power grid in the region.
“The South China power grid” has taken a series of measures to ensure stable power supply during peak summer load periods, such as utilizing the greater potential of electricity generation from renewable sources and ensuring the uninterrupted operation of interprovincial corridors for electricity exchange. -0-
