Minsk, May 26 /Xin Hua/ — Belarus wants to expand relations with Algeria. This was stated on Tuesday by the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, during a meeting in Minsk with the Chairman of the National People’s Assembly (the lower chamber of parliament) of Algeria, Ibrahim Bougali. Corresponding information was published by the press service of the head of the Belarusian state.
“We are absolutely open to your country and would very much like to have advanced, most serious relations with you. Maybe the best in all of Africa,” noted the Belarusian leader.
A. Lukashenko in a conversation noted that Belarus has partner countries in Africa, with whose assistance it plans to expand cooperation with the entire continent. “It would be very nice if one of such countries was Algeria,” the Belarusian leader pointed out. As he added, during an official visit to Algeria in December 2025, he was convinced that the economies of the two states are absolutely interconnected.
According to the President of Belarus, when forming the cooperation roadmap of the two countries, a number of specific measures were envisaged.
“It would be very good if these events, first of all, were implemented. Secondly, they became the foundation of our relations. When we begin to build relations with some country, you or we always talk about some kind of anchor, significant projects. Such projects are defined. I really count on the fact that parliamentarians of Algeria will seriously join the implementation of these projects,” said A. Lukashenko.
In his turn, I. Bugali noted that now the focus in his country is on a policy of economic diversification and reducing dependence on hydrocarbons. Algeria strives to develop such sectors as agriculture, industry, and pharmaceuticals.
“We need Belarusian experience in strengthening these spheres, increasing work in these areas, and I am confident that there are prospects here for joint work,” emphasized the chairman of the lower house of the Algerian parliament.
