Moscow, May 26 /Sin Hua/ — Beijing and Moscow are jointly promoting the high-quality development of Chinese-Russian relations. This was stated by the Ambassador of the PRC to the Russian Federation, Zhang Hanhui, in an article authored by him, published on Monday in “Rossiyskaya Gazeta.” The publication is dedicated to the results of the state visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to China, which took place from May 19 to 20.
“This year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Chinese-Russian partnership relations and strategic cooperation, and the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation between China and Russia. In this significant year, the leaders of the two countries held deep and fruitful negotiations, jointly steering Chinese-Russian relations to a new stage of more productive and accelerated development,” the article says.
As Zhang Hanwei noted, Sino-Russian relations are now at a historical peak of all-encompassing partnership and strategic interaction in a new era and are rightly considered an example of a new type of relations between major powers.He emphasized that China and Russia are not subject to the influence of momentary events, do not change their course under the influence of circumstances, do not deviate from their path because of external interference, make a significant contribution to the protection of international justice and the formation of a new type of international relations, playing the role of a key constant under conditions of unprecedented large-scale transformations for an entire century.
The Chinese ambassador reminded that during the visit, the leaders of China and Russia signed a Joint Statement on the further strengthening of comprehensive partnership and strategic interaction, and on deepening good-neighborly relations, friendship, and cooperation. During the visit, a substantial package of documents on bilateral cooperation was signed.In addition, the leaders of the two countries agreed to extend the duration of the Treaty on Good-Neighborliness, Friendship, and Cooperation between China and Russia, which once again legally solidified the institutional basis for long-term good-neighborliness, comprehensive partnership, and strategic interaction.
“In the future, the parties will continue to firmly support each other on issues touching upon fundamental interests and key concerns, maintain close strategic dialogue and contacts at various levels, continuously strengthen political mutual trust between the two countries, ensuring the right direction and reliable protection of high-quality development of China-Russia relations,” Zhang Hanhui is convinced.

During the visit, the heads of the two states participated in the ceremony marking the opening of the Cross Years of Education between China and Russia. “In the context of the cooperation years in the field of education, the parties will expand the scale of bilateral student exchanges, deepen ties and interaction between universities and research platforms, strive to achieve more tangible results in the training of qualified personnel and joint scientific research developments, creating increasingly favorable conditions for the progressive development of Chinese-Russian relations,” shared the Chinese diplomat’s expectations.
Zhan Hanxue also noted that the Chinese side announced the extension of the visa-free regime for Russian citizens, which simplifies people-to-people exchanges between the two countries, contributes to a bright and rich mutual cultural enrichment, actively deepens tourism cooperation, and strengthens the social foundation of centuries-old friendship between the peoples of the two countries.
During the visit, a Joint Declaration on the formation of a multipolar world and a new type of international relations was published, which, in my opinion, signifies the commitment of the two countries to the defense of the international system led by the UN, an international order based on international law, and the basic norms of international relations, relying on the goals and principles of the UN Charter.As assured by Zhang Hanhui, the parties will continue to activate multifaceted coordination, strengthen interaction within the UN framework, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, BRICS, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation and other multilateral structures, steadfastly uphold the post-war world order and the authority of international law, unite the Global South and chart a true course for reforming the global governance system.
“China-Russia strategic interaction has enormous significance for maintaining global strategic stability, promoting multilateralism, and protecting the international order, serving as a valuable stabilizing factor amid instability and transformations in the world,” emphasized the Chinese diplomat.
