Students of the Higher School of Hydraulic and Power Construction of the Engineering and Construction Institute of SPbPU, Katerina Krylov and Oleg Petrov, together with the leading specialist of VSHGiE ISI, curator of the “Rusgidro” program Kristina Kapinus, took part in the VIII All-Russian Conference “Hydroelectric Power Stations in the 21st Century.”
The conference, organized by the Sayano-Shushensk branch of the Siberian Federal University, brought together leading experts, practicing engineers, students of technical universities, and specialized school classes. The event’s program included practical and theoretical industry tasks. Conference participants had the opportunity to attend engineering surveys aimed at assessing the condition of existing hydraulic structures and foundations.
On the first day of the conference, participants solved a task related to the use of unmanned underwater vehicles, within the framework of which it was necessary to conduct an inspection of the structures of the Sayano-Shushenskaya hydroelectric power station’s spillway. Later, in the lecture hall, the received data was processed and the completed task was defended. At the end of the first day of the conference, an excursion for the participants was organized to the observation deck of the Sayano-Shushenskaya hydroelectric power station with a view of the architectural lighting of the station.
Students of Politech on the second day of the conference spoke at the scientific section with the report “Promising technical solutions in the selection of the water supply route of the derivation HPP using the example of Tolmachevskaya HPP-4.” The competition commission recognized it as the best and awarded first place. After the completion of the scientific section, a technical excursion to the Sayano-Shushenskaya HPP took place, including a visit to the station museum, the machine hall, and ascent to the crest of the dam.
Such business trips vividly demonstrate the results of training and provide an incentive for further scientific work. Excursions to the Sayano-Shushenskaya HPP left deep impressions and became an important link between theoretical knowledge and real practice. Visiting such a large-scale operating facility is a unique opportunity to personally experience the full power of our country’s engineering thought, to correlate academic knowledge with reality, and to personally ask questions to specialists who will explain how everything is arranged and works in practice,” shared Oleg Petrov.
The victory of our students at the All-Russian Conference “Hydroelectric Power Plants in the 21st Century” became a natural result of many years of traditions and a high level of the scientific school in the field of hydraulic engineering construction of the Engineering and Construction Institute of SPbPU, which is rightly considered one of the strongest in the country. Today, there is not a single hydroelectric power plant in Russia in the justification, design, and construction of which graduates of the Hydraulic Engineering Faculty of SPbPU did not participate. ISI graduates have worked and continue to work on facilities not only in Russia but also in countries near and far abroad. We are proud of the continuity of generations and that our students continue the glorious traditions established by outstanding scientists with dignity. We are confident that new scientific and professional achievements lie ahead for the young people,” noted Marina Petrochenko, director of the Engineering and Construction Institute.
