Beijing, May 26 /Xinhua/ – On Tuesday, China allocated an additional 160 million yuan (approximately 23 million USD) from the central disaster relief fund to support five provincial-level regions in southern China affected by the disaster, adding to the previously allocated 120 million yuan.

Of the latest funds jointly allocated by the Ministry of Finance of the PRC and the Ministry of Emergency Management of the PRC, 110 million yuan will be directed to Anhui Province /Eastern China/, Hunan Province /Central China/, the centrally administered city of Chongqing /Southwest China/, and Guizhou Province /Southwest China/ to carry out flood prevention and disaster relief work, including threat elimination, search and rescue operations, and relocation of affected residents.

According to data from the Ministry of Finance of the PRC, another 50 million yuan will be allocated to eliminate the consequences of the earthquake in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region /GZAR, South China/, including assistance to temporarily displaced residents and repair of damaged housing.

Since mid-May, incessant heavy rains in southern China have led to severe floods and caused geological disasters, and an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.2 in the city of Luzhou /GCA/ has resulted in human casualties and material damage.

In connection with the onset of the flood season in China, the Ministry of Finance of the PRC announced that it will closely monitor the situation’s development and continue to strengthen the financial support for flood prevention and mitigation measures.
