Washington, May 25 /Xin Hua/ — On Monday, American military forces struck locations used for missile launches and boats — minesetters in southern Iran. This was reported by the U.S. Central Command /CENTCOM/.
“The US Armed Forces carried out strikes today on self-defense targets in southern Iran to protect our troops from threats posed by Iranian forces,” reads a statement by CENTCOM official Tim Hawkins.
“The targets were rocket launch sites and Iranian boats attempting to lay mines. The US Central Command continues to protect our forces, exercising restraint during the ongoing ceasefire,” he said.
Strikes were carried out in the Bender-Abbas area, where Iran’s main naval base is located. As a result, two vessels of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps were destroyed and an earth-to-air missile site was hit, T. Hawkins stated.
As a result of the attack, four people died, the total number of victims and injured remains unclear, reports the Fars news agency citing Iranian state television.
The Fox News channel reported on Monday that two Iranian boats were spotted near a mine installation in the Strait of Hormuz, and American military aircraft were attacked from a missile test range. The US Armed Forces delivered a retaliatory strike. American airstrikes are “currently suspended,” the channel notes, citing a high-ranking American official.
These strikes do not signify the end of the Iran-American ceasefire, which has been in effect for several weeks, sources told journalists. –0–
