Moscow, May 26 /Xinhua/ — Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law allowing the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation to protect Russians who have been arrested, detained, or prosecuted based on decisions of foreign courts without the participation of the Russian side. The corresponding document was posted on the official legal information portal on Monday.

The document consolidates the possibility of applying military units to ensure the security of citizens of the Russian Federation who are subjected to criminal or other pressure from foreign and international authorities.

The law must come into force ten days after the official publication.

In the opinion of State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin, the law is necessary to protect Russians from unfair Western justice. –0–
