Tbilisi, May 25 /Sina Ua/ — The poverty rate in Georgia in 2025 decreased to 7.1 percent against the backdrop of economic growth of 7.5 percent. Around 90 thousand residents of the country emerged from poverty. This was announced on Monday by the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze at a press conference in the government administration.
According to the Prime Minister, since 2020, the poverty level in Georgia has decreased exactly threefold — from 21.3 percent to 7.1 percent.
As I. Kobalidze clarified, over the past five years the average annual reduction in the poverty level in the country amounted to 2.84 percentage points. “In 2012, more than 1.12 million people fell below the poverty line, whereas in 2025 this indicator decreased to less than 280 thousand people,” he noted.
The head of the Georgian government added that the complete eradication of poverty remains one of the main national tasks.
