From May 18 to 22, the XI International Student Olympiad in Geodesy was held in Novosibirsk at the Siberian State University of Geosystems and Technologies. Teams from leading specialized universities of Russia and abroad participated in the competition. Students of the Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Urban Economy (FEIEU), specializing in “Land Management and Cadastre,” represented SPBGASU with dignity and won prize places in several nominations.

The team of our university included second-year studentsArtyom Abdulanov, Anastasia Vorobyova, Milena Reyes Rodriguez, Yulia Tarasovichand the third courseElizaveta Kondratyeva. The team coach is an associate professor of the department of geodesy, land management and cadastres, candidate of technical sciencesNikita Volkov.

The Olympic program included theoretical, intellectual, and practical stages aimed at testing the professional competencies of future specialists in the field of geodesy and cadastre.

One of the first tests was a creative greeting, within the framework of which teams prepared videos about their university and specialty. This year, participants were also given a special task – to create a separate video dedicated to an outstanding scientist-geodesist, cartographer, or surveyor associated with the university of the team.

At the individual stage, students solved tasks on higher geodesy, GNSS technology, working with tachymeters, analysis of topographic maps, and assessment of measurement accuracy. A separate block of questions was dedicated to the history of geodesy.

The intellectual part of the Olympiad included the team game “Brain Ring” and the captains’ contest “Svoia Igra”. Participants demonstrated not only deep professional knowledge but also the ability to make quick decisions, work under limited time conditions, and interact effectively within a team.

The practical field stage was of special importance. Students performed reverse linear-angular traversing, laid out a class IV level with the completion of a field journal, and also solved engineering problems using tape measures. When evaluating, the accuracy of measurements, the correctness of documentation, and the speed of work completion were taken into account.

As a result of the olympiad, the SPbGASU team took first place in the “Leveling Rod” nomination, and also won third place in the overall team competition.

Congratulations to the students and their mentor on the excellent results, and we wish new victories, professional growth, and continued success in scientific and practical activities!
