Amman, May 25 /Xinhua/ — Jordan and Venezuela on Sunday signed four cooperation agreements during the first visit of the Venezuelan Foreign Minister to the kingdom since the establishment of diplomatic relations more than 70 years ago.

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Jordan Ayman as-Safadi and his Venezuelan colleague Ivan Gil Pinto held negotiations in the capital of the country, Amman. Particular attention was paid to expanding cooperation in the fields of agriculture, energy, investments, tourism, and information technology.

Two diplomats signed agreements and memoranda of understanding providing for the creation of a joint bilateral committee, the launch of a mechanism of political consultations, and the expansion of cooperation in the field of agriculture and the training of diplomatic personnel. They also agreed to accelerate the signing of future agreements on investment protection, avoidance of double taxation, and visa-free regime.

At a joint press conference, A. al-Safadi stated that during the course of the negotiations, the parties also discussed issues of de-escalation of tensions in the Middle East and the restoration of stability. He highly appreciated Venezuela’s support for the resolution of the conflict based on the principle of ‘two states for two peoples.’

In turn, I. Hill Pinto conveyed congratulations from the Acting President of Venezuela, Delcy Rodriguez, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the proclamation of Jordan’s independence. According to him, Venezuela can become a gateway to South America and the Caribbean basin for Jordan. He noted the economic complementarity of the two countries and expressed readiness to attract Jordanian technological expertise and companies to the Venezuelan market.

This meeting took place after A. al-Safadi’s February trip to Caracas, which became the first visit of the Jordanian Foreign Minister to Venezuela.
