Taiyuan, May 23 /Xinhua/ — The investigative team sent by the National People’s Congress Standing Committee has promised to conduct a strict and uncompromising investigation into the deadly gas explosion at a coal mine in Shanxi province /Northern China/.
As a result of the accident that occurred on May 22 on the Luzhene road in Qinhuang County, 82 people died, and nine others are still missing.
The investigative team stated that it will thoroughly examine the causes of the accident, determine the degree of responsibility of local authorities, industry regulatory bodies, and the implicated enterprise, as well as appoint strict punitive measures in accordance with laws and regulatory acts.
The group called on local authorities to conduct a thorough occupational safety inspection at the plant, to decisively combat illegal and unlawful actions, to suppress such practices as falsification of safety monitoring data, unclear accounting of workers, hidden underground employment, as well as illegal subcontracting and subleasing.
