Aktobe /Kazakhstan/, May 22 /Sinhua/ — The final qualifying stage of the Kazakhstan leg of the worldwide “Chinese Bridge” contest among school students and university students of 2026 took place on May 21-22 in the city of Aktobe in the west of the country. More than 40 participants studying Chinese from five Confucius Institutes of Kazakhstan and other educational institutions took part in the competition.

The Consul General of the PRC in Aktobe, Go Yu, in his speech stated that the “Bridge of the Chinese Language” competition has become a popular brand in Kazakhstan and an important platform for youth exchanges between China and Kazakhstan. He urged young people to turn language skills into an advantage for development, realizing themselves in the process of joint construction of the “Belt and Road” initiative. He expressed hope that the youth of Kazakhstan, by studying the Chinese language, will be able to better understand China and learn about the world, as well as actively promote the ideas of openness, inclusiveness, and mutually beneficial cooperation.

The final among junior schoolchildren was held in an online format. Finals among high school students and university students took place at the K. Zhubanov Aktobe Regional University. Participants gave speeches, sharing their personal experience of studying the Chinese language. They also performed traditional Chinese dances, arias from operas, wushu, and calligraphy, demonstrating their interest in Chinese culture.

A participant in the school student competition, Alita Sadu from the Confucius Institute at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, presented calligraphic work with the phrase “The sea is nourished by all rivers — its greatness lies in its ability to contain all.” According to her, a person becomes better when open to new things and willing to constantly learn. “This competition helped me gain confidence in myself. After finishing school, I hope to go study in China and continue learning the Chinese language and culture,” she said.
