The main suspects linked to a criminal group involved in telecommunications fraud in northern Myanmar appeared in court in eastern China

Fuchou, May 22 /Xinhua/ — Five defendants, including key members of a group involved in telecommunications fraud in northern Myanmar, appeared in court in China facing a number of charges, including in connection with the murder of four Chinese citizens.

The People’s Court of the intermediate level of the city of Quanzhou /Fujian Province, East China/ held hearings on this case from May 19 to 22. Among the defendants were Wei Huaizhen and Chen Dawei.

Prosecutors stated that Wei Huaijian and his family, using military and political influence in the Kokang region in Myanmar, created several criminal complexes to carry out telecommunications fraud against Chinese citizens. Illegal proceeds from this alleged family amounted to 2.4 billion yuan / 353 million USD.

According to prosecutors, the criminal group also provided armed protection to the “sponsor” and killed two Chinese citizens.

Chen Davey and his associates are accused of committing premeditated murder, resulting in the deaths of two more Chinese citizens.

The prosecutor’s office demands bringing Wei Huaizhen, Chen Davei, and others to criminal responsibility on charges such as fraud, premeditated murder, and others.
