Beijing, May 22 /Xinhua/ — At the invitation of Premier Li Qiang of the State Council of the PRC, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, will visit China on an official visit from May 23 to May 26.

Sh. Sharif was born in 1951 in the city of Lahore in the Punjab province. He is the younger brother of the former Prime Minister of the country, Nawaz Sharif. Since 1988, he was elected three times to the parliament of the Punjab province, and in 1990 he was elected as a deputy to the National Assembly of Pakistan.

He headed Punjab for a long time and three times held the post of Chief Minister of this province — in 1997, 2008, and 2013. In March 2018, he was elected chairman of the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz faction), and in August 2018 became the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly of Pakistan.

In April 2022, Sh. Sharif took office as the 23rd Prime Minister of Pakistan and held this position until August 2023. On March 4, 2024, he was sworn in as the 24th Prime Minister of the country.

Sh. Sharif is known for his friendly stance towards China and has repeatedly visited the SCO.
