Washington, May 21 /Xin Hua/ — The Iranian conflict is unpopular among the majority of Americans. Sociological data testify to this.
As a recent New York Times/Siena poll showed, 64 percent of respondents believe that the war with Iran was the wrong decision. Similar results were demonstrated by other similar polls.
45-year-old Rosa King, an office worker from a suburb of Washington, told Xinhua that she is “disappointed” with US President Donald Trump, who, in her opinion, “is acting under Israel’s control.” 34-year-old Brad Garcia, a car salesman from the outskirts of Washington, told Xinhua that, as it seems to him, Israel exerts too much influence on the USA.
According to surveys, a significant portion of young republicans and independent respondents, inclined to support the Republican Party, are increasingly skeptical about the start of the war and its long-term financial consequences.
“Trump thought that the victory in Iran would be quick and easy, and that he could negotiate with the new leaders of this country. None of this turned out to be true,” said Xin Hua, senior researcher at the Brookings Institution Darrell West.
The negative public reaction is caused by the absence of clear strategic goals and serious economic consequences. The disruption of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz led to a 50-percent increase in domestic gasoline prices, which resulted in a record low approval rating for the president’s work.
Meanwhile, D. Trump said on Wednesday that the conflict in Iran is coming to an end. “We are entering the final stage in Iran,” he told reporters during boarding of Air Force One.
“Let’s see what comes of it,” the president noted. “We will either make a deal, or we will do a few slightly unpleasant things, but I hope that does not happen.” –0–
