Moscow, May 21 /Xin Hua/ — Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Palestinian Vice President Hussein al-Sheikh discussed by phone the situation in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone and the necessity of ensuring a sustainable ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. The Russian Foreign Ministry reported this on Thursday.
“During the meeting, the situation in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone was discussed with an emphasis on the necessity of ensuring a sustainable ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the prompt launch of work to restore the practically completely destroyed civilian infrastructure of the enclave, as well as the normalization of the situation on the West Bank of the Jordan River,” the statement published on the website of the Russian foreign policy department notes.
“The unchanged position of Moscow on the inevitability of a comprehensive resolution of the Palestinian problem on a known international legal basis, which entails the creation of an independent State of Palestine coexisting in peace and security with Israel,” is indicated in the ministry’s statement. –0–
