Beijing, May 21 /Xinhua/ — The talks held on Wednesday in Beijing between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin set the direction for the next stage of developing bilateral relations and reflected the commitment of the two major world powers to reform global governance in the right direction.
In-depth, friendly, and fruitful negotiations lasting more than three hours overall once again confirmed the common aspiration to unwaveringly promote the long-term, healthy, stable, and high-quality development of China-Russia relations, which is a strategic choice of both sides, based on the fundamental interests of the two countries and common trends of global development.
The visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to China coincided with two important dates in the history of bilateral relations — the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Chinese-Russian partnership and strategic cooperation, as well as the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation between the PRC and the Russian Federation. During the visit, the leaders of the two countries agreed to extend the validity of this treaty, emphasizing the long-term nature of Chinese-Russian friendship.
Currently, bilateral relations are reaching their highest level throughout history. The leading role of the heads of state serves as a fundamental guarantee of the sustainable and long-term development of Sino-Russian relations. Having held more than 40 meetings over these years, Xi Jinping and V. Putin have established deep mutual trust and sincere friendship, ensuring continuity and strategic leadership of bilateral ties.
The talks held on Wednesday sent an encouraging signal to the international community that China and Russia continue to strengthen the foundation of political mutual trust, which is the most striking characteristic of interstate relations.
Practical cooperation acts as an internal driving force for the stable growth of Sino-Russian relations. To promote high-quality development of bilateral ties, further deepening of such cooperation in all areas is necessary. During V. Putin’s visit, a number of cooperation documents were signed. An improvement in the quality of practical cooperation is expected in areas such as trade, investments, energy, transport, and scientific and technological innovations.
One of the necessities is to unwaveringly develop the Chinese-Russian friendship, passed down from generation to generation, importantly strengthening humanitarian exchanges and cooperation in the fields of education, culture, cinematography, tourism, and sports, thereby contributing to the strengthening of the social foundation of friendship between the two states, so that it takes deeper root in the hearts of people.
Stable Chinese-Russian relations not only bring benefits to the peoples of the two countries, but also contribute to the progress of humanity. The modern world is far from peaceful; it faces serious threats from unilateralism and hegemonism, as well as the risk of a return to the “law of the jungle.” As permanent members of the UN Security Council, China and Russia bear special responsibility for maintaining world peace and development on the planet.
To promote the construction of a more just and rational system of global governance, it is necessary to further strengthen coordination and interaction within multilateral structures such as the UN, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, BRICS, and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, to facilitate the unity of Global South countries and to ensure the reform of the global governance system in the right direction.
No matter how the international situation changes, China and Russia will confidently continue their path under the strategic leadership of the heads of the two states, using the stability of Chinese-Russian relations to overcome various challenges facing the modern world.
In the future, the two countries intend to fully utilize historical opportunities, ensure stable and long-term growth of bilateral relations, and open a new chapter in the history of cooperation. –0–
