Almaty, May 21 /Xin Hua/ — On May 20, CPC Chairman Xi Jinping held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who was on an official visit to China. Kazakhstani experts positively assessed this meeting, noting that amid serious transformation of international relations, accompanied by geopolitical changes, economic uncertainty, and the emergence of new challenges, the meeting of the leaders of China and Russia could make a significant contribution to maintaining global stability and the comprehensive development of the international relations system.

Associate Professor of the Higher School of Social and Humanitarian Sciences at the International University “Astana” Taisia Marmontova believes that V. Putin’s visit to China has become a “key point” for transferring Sino-Russian relations to a new level of longer-term development.

“Moscow and Beijing clearly associate their interests with the restructuring of the international system and declare that they see themselves as a support for a more just, multipolar world, rather than part of traditional bloc confrontation,” noted T. Marmontova.

The editor-in-chief of the newspaper “Delovoy Kazakhstan” Serik Korzhumbaev pointed out that the extension of the Treaty on Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation between the PRC and the Russian Federation has important strategic significance not only for the two countries, but also for the entire Eurasia.

“In today’s challenging conditions, a stable and predictable relationship between major states acquires special significance,” he emphasized. According to the expert, the extension of the agreement demonstrates to the international community the importance of a long-term strategic approach and reinforces confidence in maintaining stability and predictability in regional development.

“For the countries of Central Asia, stable relations between China and Russia create additional conditions for the development of transport and logistics routes, the expansion of trade and economic ties, and the implementation of joint infrastructure projects in the Eurasian space,” drew attention S. Korzhumbaev.

Experts also highly appreciated the important role played by the CIS and the EEU within the framework of a multifaceted platform, including the Shanghai Cooperation Organization /SCO/ and BRICS.

S. Korzhumbaev expressed the opinion that China and Russia will likely continue to strengthen coordination and cooperation within the framework of the SCO and BRICS, supporting the development of a more just, balanced, and inclusive international governance system.
