Harbin, May 21 /Xin Hua/ — The 10th China-Russia EXPO successfully concluded on Thursday in the city of Harbin (administrative center of Heilongjiang Province, Northeast China). The event attracted about 5,000 Russian buyers seeking opportunities for business and cooperation, which strengthened the status of the EXPO as the largest large-scale comprehensive exhibition event of the highest level aimed at promoting trade and economic cooperation between China and Russia.

The five-day EXPO, occupying an exhibition area of 55 thousand square meters, gathered more than 1500 enterprises from 46 countries and regions of the world, including about 300 Russian participant enterprises.

“The China-Russia EXPO is a mutual process of exchanging solutions and technologies between Russia and China, which allows both sides to develop faster,” said the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Far Eastern Federal District Yuriy Trutnev, answering a question from correspondent Xin Hua.

NOT ONLY ECONOMY

“On the very first day of the exhibition, we held 104 business meetings and targeted trade negotiations with 43 Chinese companies, as a result of which the potential cooperation amount reached 3.9 billion rubles / approximately 55 million USD,” said the General Representative of the Russian Export Center / REC / in China, Evgeny Bazhov.

He also noted that the visa-free regime between China and Russia has significantly facilitated trips for Russian businessmen, especially by removing barriers for those participating in the exhibition for the first time.

At EXPO, the Russian brand “Svitlogorye” presented waffle cones with ice cream in four flavors, made from natural milk, and held a tasting session at their stand.

“Svitlogorye” has been operating in the Chinese market for many years and has already opened a branch in Shanghai and previously participated in the China International Import Expo / CIIE / and other exhibitions in China. “We mainly engage in B2B sales with networks such as Freshippo, Ole’, and also successfully work with Meituan,” shared the company’s representative in China, Timur Dorzhiev.

Nevertheless, participation in the China-Russia EXPO in Harbin became the first for “Svitlogorye.”

“Northern China is close to Russia and Russian culture, so many Russian products are sold here. The cultures are intertwined, and we have the task that Harbin consumers become familiar with our products, and that we find key partners,” emphasized T. Dorzhiev.

The museum and industrial complex “Tagil Tray” from Nizhny Tagil also participated for the first time in the EXPO in Harbin.

“Our artists hand-paint the trays with brushes. Each painting is unique,” said the correspondent. The director of the company Sin Syu, Andrey Vasilyev, explained. According to him, the production time of one tray ranges from 15 to 30 working days, and the enterprise produces from 400 to 900 trays per month.

“We have brought a piece of our culture here to the overseas EXPO for the first time,” shared A. Vasilyev, reminding that this year marks 280 years since its founding in 1746.

“We perceive participation in EXPO not primarily as a way to make money, of course, that is needed as well, but first and foremost, it is to get acquainted with friends from China and establish long-term partnerships, as well as to share about our culture that exists in Russia,” emphasized A. Vasilyev.

Let us remind you that within the framework of EXPO, the honorary guest provinces from the Chinese side were Guangdong (Southern China) and Zhejiang (Eastern China), and the honorary guest city from the Russian side was Moscow. Relevant events were held to deepen not only industrial and trade-economic ties but also humanitarian exchanges between the regions of the two countries.

CHINESE-ROSSIYSKAYA TORGOVLYA EXPLANATION

In addition to the products already familiar to participants of EXPO from China and Russia, more than 500 advanced technologies and new products debuted at its venue, covering such key sectors as intellectual equipment, digital security, eco-friendly building materials, and modern energy storage systems.

At the same time, high-tech companies and enterprises, distinguished by specialization, detail, uniqueness, and innovation, accounted for more than 20% of the total number of exponents.

The company New Nanfeng Thermo & Comfort Co., Ltd., specializing in heating equipment for automobiles, has successfully entered the Russian market with a fuel liquid heater thanks to the current exhibition. This product has already helped many Chinese automotive manufacturers to develop regions with extremely high and low temperatures.

Currently, the company’s equipment for cold regions is supplied to Russia through Chinese manufacturers Foton, BAIC, and Yutong. Participation in the exhibition is aimed at establishing direct contacts with Russian vehicle manufacturers to expand sales channels, said the head of the company’s foreign trade department, Men Tenda.

The Russian State Industrial Corporation “Rostec” also presented a wide range of advanced products at EXPO. Viktor Kladov, Director of International Cooperation at the state corporation “Rostec,” reported that the Ka-32 helicopter is in significant demand in China – such machines have been ordered by the police and fire service of Shanxi.

Many radio-electronic devices and electric buses in Russia use Chinese components, and the corporation itself supplies electronic components and technologies to China. V. Kladov also noted that “Roste” created a joint enterprise for the production of medical equipment in Guangzhou (administrative center of Guangdong Province, South China).

“The current Russian-Chinese cooperation has gone beyond simple trade and has grown into deep joint scientific research and production cooperation,” he said at the exhibition.

According to the Ministry of Commerce of the PRC, the volume of trade between China and Russia has exceeded 200 billion dollars for the third consecutive year. Last year, this figure reached 227.9 billion dollars. China remains Russia’s largest trading partner for the 16th consecutive year.

In the first quarter of this year, bilateral trade continued to show steady growth, reaching $61.2 billion. The USA increased by 14.7% compared to the same period last year, with China’s exports to Russia growing by 22%, and imports from Russia increasing by 9%.

The structure of China-Russia trade continues to improve, with the share of electrometallurgical and high-tech products steadily increasing, said an official from the Ministry of Commerce of the PRC Ma Chi.

NEW FORMS OF COOPERATION AND NEW PROSPECTS

New forms and models of Chinese-Russian cooperation were also comprehensively presented at the EXPO, including culture and tourism within the framework of a mutual visa-free regime and cross-border electronic commerce.

Viktor Kutuzov, general director of the Arctic tourism company “Kutuzov-na-Murmane,” visited the exhibition for the first time to launch specialized Arctic tourist routes in the Murmansk region for Chinese tourists. According to him, compared to traditional routes such as Moscow and Saint Petersburg, Chinese tourists are increasingly interested in other interesting tourist destinations in Russia.

Over the past three years, the number of Chinese tourists visiting the Murmansk region has significantly increased and reached about 40 thousand per year. V. Kutuzov believes that in the coming years this figure could reach 100-150 thousand.

V. Kutuzov, expressing his trust in the high level of cooperation between Russia and China in various spheres, said that the introduction of a mutual visa-free regime will cause a significant boom in cross-border trips, which will give a powerful impulse to the development of tourism.

According to the head of the Heilongjiang Provincial Committee for the Promotion of International Trade, Chen Shizhong, Chinese-Russian economic and trade cooperation has expanded beyond traditional sectors, such as energy and mineral extraction, and has stimulated new industries, including the digital economy, green development, and cross-border e-commerce.

The Chairman of the Union of Chinese Entrepreneurs in Russia, Zhou Lijun, stated that the China-Russia EXPO, which has already been held 10 times, is now at a new starting point for its development. Also, the development of China-Russia trade and economic cooperation is expected to bring completely new opportunities.

He called agriculture, science and technology, as well as intellectual logistics the main promising directions for the development of trade and economic cooperation between China and Russia.

“Now it is necessary to use the China-Russia EXPO as an opportunity for the further implementation of joint plans and the achievement of concrete results,” he added.

According to him, mechanisms and platforms for cooperation have already matured, what remains is to make constant efforts to unlock even greater cooperation potential.
