Beijing, May 21 /Xin Hua/ — Since 2025, the Chinese police have managed to detain more than 880 suspects in economic crimes who hid abroad after being exposed, including 38 fugitives apprehended following the issuance of “Red Notices” by Interpol. This was reported by the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) of the PRC.

The detention operations were carried out from 2025 until the end of April 2026 in the city of “Orototy na Lis” — a special campaign initiated by the MOB CNS since 2014 with the aim of catching alleged economic criminals who had fled abroad.

During the specified period, as told by the head of the Operational Investigative Bureau for Economic Crimes of the Ministry of Public Security, Hua Lebin, law enforcement officers solved 128 thousand cases of economic crimes and returned 37.5 billion yuan / about 5.5 billion USD to the state treasury.

In particular, more than 1,600 cases have been uncovered related to the use of offshore companies and shadow banking to move proceeds obtained through criminal means abroad, striking a blow to more than 100 interregional underground banking networks.

MOB has disclosed 20 typical cases related to economic crimes. These include illegal entrepreneurial activities, money laundering, counterfeiting of currency, obtaining insurance compensation or tax refunds through fraudulent means, and other crimes. -0-
