“Our future is inextricably linked with China.” At the 6th Russian exhibition “HSK — Education and Work in China,” held on May 16 at the Chinese Business Center in Moscow, almost every young Russian respondent gave a similar answer to the question “Why do you study Chinese and want to study in China?”

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Counselor and Envoy of the Chinese Embassy in Russia Cao Shiai said that cooperation in the field of education is the most important foundation for the sustainable development of Sino-Russian relations in the long term, and the Cross-Year of Education will certainly open up new opportunities for bilateral cooperation. Cao Shiai called on more Russian students to come to study in China, to see with their own eyes the real, multifaceted, and dynamic China, to build new bridges of friendship between China and Russia, and to become ambassadors of cultural exchange and conductors of practical cooperation.

2026 is the starting year of the Cross Years of Education. The Rector of the Moscow State Linguistic University (MSLU), Irina Kraeva, noted in her speech that the Cross Years of Education give a powerful impulse to deepen and develop bilateral educational cooperation. Chinese language teaching at MSLU has been carried out since 1990, and today more than 600 students study Chinese within the walls of the university.Irina Kraeva expressed hope for deepening cooperation with Chinese universities for the joint training of highly qualified specialists who are fluent in two languages and understand the cultural characteristics of both countries.

Valeria, a student at the All-Russian Academy of Foreign Trade, has been studying Chinese for two years. She is passionate about Chinese martial arts and has repeatedly been a prize-winner in competitions. At the exhibition, she stood for a long time by the booth of the University of Jinan (named after Sun Yat-sen). “I am only in my first year, but I have already decided to apply for a master’s degree in China. I want to prepare in advance and choose one of the universities in southern China,” she shared.

Alexey, a graduate of the Russian University of Transport, is only planning to start studying Chinese. “China has achieved impressive economic success, I studied in the specialty ‘World Economy’ and hope to continue my education in China to unravel the secret of the Chinese economic miracle,” he said.

On the day of the exhibition at the Chinese Business Center in Moscow, an HSK Chinese language exam was also held, in which nearly 6,000 people participated. After taking the exam, many students, together with their parents, examined the stands, carefully studying the conditions for admission to universities presented at the exhibition.

12-year-old Sergey came to the exam from Orenburg. He has been studying Chinese for eight years and loves films about Chinese martial arts. “Chinese is indeed a difficult language, but I really like it, and I will never give up studying Chinese. My dream is to enter a Chinese university. Next year I plan to go to China to a summer camp, I want to see this country with my own eyes and get closer to its culture,” Sergey said.
