On December 31, 2025, CCP Chairman Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin exchanged New Year’s greetings, announcing the holding of the Year of Russian-Chinese Cooperation in the Field of Education in 2026-2027.

Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of Russia Konstantin Mogilevsky noted that the Years of Cross Education open up new opportunities for a comprehensive increase in the level of cooperation in the educational sphere. He especially emphasized that it was precisely thanks to the attention and support of the heads of the two states that ten years ago the Joint University MSU-PPI was officially opened in Shenzhen.

On September 13, 2017, the leaders of China and Russia sent congratulatory messages on the occasion of the solemn start of the first academic year at the joint university MGU-PPI in Shenzhen. The Chairman of the CNSC, Xi Jinping, in his address wished the university to “make every effort to become a high-class educational institution, train highly qualified personnel, and contribute to deepening Sino-Russian educational cooperation and developing friendship between the peoples of the two countries.”

“I still remember that day when we listened to the addresses of the heads of state in the assembly hall,” said the correspondent the Russian teacher, dean of the biological faculty of MSU-PPK, Andrey Kitashov. “In the sincere words of the leaders of the two countries, there was a feeling of confidence in the prospects for educational cooperation and great hopes for its future.”

Over ten years of hard work, the university has achieved brilliant results and has trained a range of specialists with a broad profile, who are proficient in Chinese and Russian languages, understand the culture of both countries, and possess a global outlook. These specialists have become an important personnel resource for multifaceted cooperation between China and Russia, as well as for the joint construction of the “Belt and Road” initiative.

Russian student Anton Yeschev began to study Chinese independently while still in school, fell in love with Chinese culture, and later enrolled in the Joint University of MGOU-PPI in Shenzhen. He is currently in his second year. “Here I study everything related to China, I am getting to know the real, multifaceted China,” says Anton.

In recent years, Russian-Chinese cooperation in the field of education has been constantly expanding and becoming increasingly meaningful. Currently, more than 60 thousand Chinese students are studying in Russia, and in China — more than 20 thousand students from Russia. Associations of specialized universities in China and Russia have become the largest network of bilateral inter-university cooperation in the world. In 2025, a joint Chinese-Russian project “Master Lu Banya,” created by universities from both countries, will begin operating in Moscow — this is the world’s first “Master Lu Banya” to implement 5G technologies into professional training educational programs.

Rector of the Russian People’s Friendship University Oleg Yastrebov stated: “Thanks to the attention and support of the heads of two states, the Crossed Years of Education will give a new impulse to the development of bilateral relations.”
