Saint Petersburg, April 3 /TASS/ — The Russian deep-sea manned submersible “Yason” is planned to be launched in October 2026. This was announced to TASS on Thursday by the president of the National Research Center “Kurchatov Institute,” Mikhail Kovalchuk.
Speaking at an open lecture as part of the St. Petersburg International Educational Forum, M. Kovalchuk noted that the apparatus was assembled at the SevMash enterprise in the Arkhangelsk region and has already undergone a series of tests. “Yason” can operate in fresh and seawater in an unlimited range of navigation. It will also ensure the safety of Russia’s gas transportation system facilities.
The aircraft crew will include two people, one of whom will operate the aircraft. The second person on board is a technical specialist. A distinctive feature of the aircraft is the body, made of transparent acrylic material. This allows the aircraft crew a 270-degree view. The aircraft is equipped with a sufficient number of emergency means and will be able to automatically transmit information about its location even in the event of power outage or loss of consciousness of the crew members.
The submarine of the 03660 “Yason” project was laid down at “Sevmash” in June 2022. –0–
