Beijing, May 19 /Xinhua/ — China is ready, together with Liberia, to effectively use the dividends of China’s zero-tariff policy, continuously facilitate bilateral trade, and unlock the colossal potential of mutually beneficial cooperation. This was stated on Tuesday by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

Van Yi, who is also a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, made a corresponding statement during negotiations in Beijing with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Liberia, Saroj Baisolou Nyanti.

According to the head of the Ministry of Industry and Development, China and Liberia are friends and partners who together overcome difficulties and move hand in hand on the path of modernization.

Van I indicated that the Chinese side highly values Liberia’s adherence to the One China principle and supports the country in safeguarding its state sovereignty and security, as well as in seeking development paths that correspond to national conditions and traditions. China expects that the two countries will continue to provide strong mutual support on issues affecting fundamental interests and key concerns, added the Chinese diplomat.

He announced the intention of the CPC to promote cooperation with Liberia in such areas as trade, agriculture, and public welfare, and to strengthen exchanges in areas such as culture, youth policy, sports, and human resources. According to him, China is ready together with Liberia to effectively use the dividends of China’s zero-tariff policy, one of the first beneficiaries of which became the Liberian side.

Van I welcomed Liberia’s accession to the International Mediation Organization as a new member, stating that China fully supports Liberia in fulfilling its obligations as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council and is ready to assist with it in revitalizing and strengthening the UN, as well as protecting the legitimate rights and interests of Global South countries.

S. B. Nyanti, in turn, stated that Liberia firmly adheres to the principle of one China, respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the PRC, enshrining this in its domestic legislation. According to her, Liberia is deeply grateful to China for the long-term support of its national development and for the valuable assistance in responding to the pandemic.

Liberia is ready to use China’s experience in such areas as poverty alleviation and development, as well as strengthen multifaceted cooperation with the PRC within the framework of the UN, the minister added. –0–
