Washington, May 19 /Xin Hua/ — U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that the United States may deliver a new strike against Iran, noting that he was only an hour away from making the corresponding decision, but postponed the strike at the request of U.S. allies in the Persian Gulf.
As D. Trump noted in the White House, the leaders of Iran “beg” to make a deal, but warned that a new US strike may be carried out in the coming days if an agreement is not reached.
According to him, this could happen as early as May 22, either alone or at the beginning of the following week. The American president emphasized that Washington “cannot allow Iran to obtain new nuclear weapons.”
Mr. Trump noted that several U.S. allies in the Persian Gulf informed him about progress in negotiations, with Pakistan acting as a mediator, aimed at reaching a peace agreement. In this regard, he decided to provide a “limited period of time” — at least two or three days — for the continuation of the negotiations.
