Almaty, May 19 /Xinhua/ — Against the backdrop of growing global instability, the recent talks in Beijing between the leaders of China and the USA have gained significance, far exceeding the usual scope of diplomacy. The discussion was not only about contact between the world’s two largest economies but also about the possible future of the international order. This opinion was expressed by Serik Korzhumbaev, the editor-in-chief of the newspaper “Delovoy Kazakhstan,” in an article.
He noted that during negotiations in Beijing, the Chinese side raised a fundamental question: Are the world’s largest states capable of abandoning the logic of geopolitical confrontation and moving towards a model of joint development?
In my opinion, S. Korzhumbaev’s position looks quite consistent: the development of one country does not necessarily have to occur at the expense of another. On the contrary, expanding cooperation can create additional opportunities for all participants in the international process.
As the expert indicated, the main outcome of the negotiations was the emergence of a new concept of “China-US relations of constructive strategic stability.” China proposed to shift the relationship between the two world powers from a plane of constant confrontation to a plane of long-term interaction.
In essence, writes S. Korzhumbaev, China proposes to replace the ‘zero-sum game’ principle, where the gain of one is achieved at the expense of the loss of another, with a model in which parties can develop simultaneously.
The editor-in-chief of “Delovoy Kazakhstan” drew attention to the fact that during the negotiations, the Chinese side once again confirmed its readiness to expand access for foreign companies to the Chinese market and deepen international economic cooperation.
As a result of the negotiations, the parties agreed to develop trade interaction, create new coordination mechanisms, and expand mutual market access. According to S. Korzhumbaev, Beijing has once again demonstrated a pragmatic approach, based on the understanding that the global economy is too interconnected for the world’s largest countries to exist isolated from each other.
“It is premature to talk about a complete change in the nature of Sino-American relations. However, the Beijing summit demonstrated an important trend: even amid serious disagreements, the major global players are capable of seeking not only points of contact but also a new philosophy of interaction,” summarized the Kazakh expert. –0–
