Nanning, May 18 /Xinhua/ — Two people died and eight more are reported missing as of 9 a.m. Monday after a pickup truck fell into a river in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region /GZA, South China/, local authorities reported.
The number of fatalities increased after a woman previously considered missing was found dead. Her body was found three kilometers downstream from the first water retention dam near the place where the vehicle fell into the river, confirming that she died at the scene of the incident. Another eight people are still considered missing.
According to the county government, the incident occurred on Saturday evening when a pickup truck carrying 15 people fell into the water while crossing a flooded bridge in the village of Liyan, Huangzian-Maonan Autonomous County in GCA. Five people were rescued.
Currently, the rescue team members are regulating the water level on the river using a water-retaining dam and are making every effort to search for the missing without a trace.
