Islamabad, April 3 /Xin Hua/ — Torrential rains, accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms, caused chaos in the Pakistani province of Balochistan and the southern port city of Karachi, leading to massive service disruptions, infrastructure damage, and the deaths of 15 people over the past 24 hours.
According to representatives of the Provincial Office for the Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters, published on Friday, as a result of heavy rains that struck more than a dozen districts of the province, at least eight people died, and several others were injured.
According to representatives of local rescue services, seven people died in Karachi as a result of electric shock and wall collapses during periods of heavy rainfall. Currently, measures are being taken to prevent road flooding and to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow during the rainy period.
Earlier, the Pakistani Meteorological Department forecast heavy rains with thunderstorms in some parts of the South Asian country until April 4, stating that abundant precipitation could cause floods, landslides, and damage to crops. –0–
