Saint Petersburg, May 17 /Xinhua/ — Russia and China have laid a sustainable foundation for bilateral cooperation, and in the coming years, positive growth dynamics of bilateral trade and economic relations are expected. This was stated in an interview with Xinhua by Igor Maksimtsev, rector of Saint Petersburg State University of Economics (SPbSUE).

On the eve of the state visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to China, an expert outlined a wide range of promising directions for further development of economic cooperation between the two countries, including energy supplies, logistics, artificial intelligence, developments in the space and aviation sectors, creation of joint scientific and technological laboratories, and improvement of payment systems.

“The reliability of Russia in ensuring energy supplies leaves no doubt for anyone. This will contribute to the development of China’s economy for many years to come,” said I. Maksimtsev. Another promising direction, according to him, is the development of logistics, including the potential of the Northern Sea Route. In this area, both Russian and Chinese technologies could be in active demand.

“We are observing a very dynamic development of artificial intelligence all over the planet. Russia and China can actively cooperate in this sphere, as well as in robotics, which will allow overcoming many barriers and utilizing the freed human potential in other directions,” added the expert.

In the opinion of I. Maksimtsev, an important role in ensuring the further development of bilateral trade and economic relations is played by personnel training. “Chinese students in Russian universities and Russian students in China are the basis for cooperation, those are the personnel who will help us increase turnover and develop joint technologies. And holding overlapping Education Years in 2026-2027 will give a good impetus to the development of cooperation in all areas,” emphasized the rector of SPbGEU.
