Tehran, May 17 /Xin Hua/ — The USA has put forward “maximalist” conditions in response to Tehran’s latest peace proposal, refusing to make any “tangible” concessions. This was reported on Sunday by the Iranian semi-official news agency MEHR.

As the agency noted, the United States seeks to achieve concessions that it was unable to obtain from Iran during the 40-day war, but at the same time does not offer any tangible reciprocal compromises.

Meisr indicated that Iran will begin negotiations with the USA only if Washington takes steps to strengthen trust, including ceasing military actions on all fronts, primarily in Lebanon, lifting imposed sanctions, unblocking frozen Iranian assets, paying reparations for war damage, and recognizing Iran’s sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz.

According to the agency, the USA put forward “maximalist” conditions in response to Iran’s proposal, rejecting any reparations and the unfreezing of assets, and demanding that the Islamic Republic hand over to the American side the entire stock of enriched uranium amounting to 400 kg.

Moreover, it is reported that Washington demanded the establishment of long-term restrictions on Iran’s nuclear industry and set a condition, according to which the prerequisite for the cessation of hostilities should be the start of the negotiation process. –0–
