Naypyidaw, April 3 /Xin Hua/ — Min Aung Hlaing on Friday secured more than 50 percent of the votes in the vote at the Assembly of the Union (parliament) of Myanmar, ensuring victory in the presidential election in the country.
The Presidential Electoral College of Myanmar, consisting of all members of the Assembly of the Union, held a session on Friday for the presidential elections, in which 584 representatives participated.
In the voting, Min Aung Hlaing, nominated by a group of deputies from the Assembly of People’s Representatives (lower house), received 429 votes. The candidate from the group of military representatives of both houses of the Union, U Nyo So, scored 126 votes, while Nan Ni Ei, nominated by deputies of the Nationalities Assembly (upper house), received 29 votes.
According to the country’s electoral system, the presidential electoral college elects the president from among the three vice-presidents.
