Beijing, May 17 /Xin Hua/ — Forecasted heavy rains in some northern regions of China have led to the suspension of railway services and the issuance of a storm warning, according to an official statement published on Saturday.

China Railway Beijing Group Co., Ltd. announced that from Sunday to Monday the movement of some passenger trains on more than 10 railway lines will be suspended, as heavy rains are expected in some areas of Beijing and neighboring regions.

The Beijing Meteorological Observatory has issued a “blue” warning in connection with heavy rains on Saturday in the second half of the day, warning that in some areas of the capital, starting from Sunday daytime and during the night, the amount of precipitation may reach more than 50 mm, and in certain areas – more than 70 mm.

The agricultural and meteorological departments of Henan Province /Central China/ have also issued a warning about the risk of soil waterlogging in agricultural lands and wheat lodging, as strong rains and severe convective weather phenomena are expected in some areas of the province from Saturday to Tuesday.

Farmers are recommended to clear field ditches as soon as possible, promptly drain agricultural lands after rains, and strengthen care for crops in the intervals between rains.

The National Meteorological Center (NMC) of the China Meteorological Administration again issued a “yellow” level warning on Saturday evening due to heavy rains, forecasting heavy rain and downpours in some areas of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, Henan Province, Guangdong, and other regions from 20:00 Saturday to 20:00 Sunday.
