Nanjing, May 16 /Xinhua/ — Delegates from member cities of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network /UCCN/ gathered on Friday in the city of Wuxi, Jiangsu Province /Eastern China/, to hold a dialogue on how cultural creativity can contribute to sustainable urban and industrial development.
At the event, which will continue until Saturday, representatives from more than 10 cities from over 10 countries, including France and Spain, are participating.
“The holding of this international dialogue demonstrates Mr. Wu’s commitment to the intercultural dissemination of music, as well as the stimulation of sustainable urban development through cultural diversity,” said UCCN Secretary Denise Baks in her opening speech.
Wuxi joined the UCCN in October last year as a “city of music.” Currently, there are 5 member cities of this network in Jiangsu Province.
“Creative cities carry the unique cultural heritage of their regions, as well as the mission of uniting the world and shaping a common future,” noted the deputy head of the Propaganda Department of the CPC Committee of the province, Ciziyansu Suy Nin.
Founded in 2004, UCCN aims to develop cooperation with cities that consider creativity a strategic factor for sustainable urban development. As of today, the network unites 408 cities from more than 100 countries. -0-
