Moscow, May 15 /Xin Hua/ — Russia is ready to provide Cuba with political-diplomatic and material support in conditions of unprecedented escalation of the situation around the island. This was stated by the Russian Foreign Ministry following the results of a meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, which took place on Friday in New Delhi on the sidelines of the heads of foreign affairs departments meeting of BRICS.
“The Russian side has expressed its readiness to assist Havana in the implementation of its fair demand for the immediate cessation of the trade-economic and financial blockade of the island by the USA, as well as the removal of Cuba from the American list of ‘state sponsors’ of terrorism. In the conditions of unprecedented escalation of the situation, readiness to provide Havana with appropriate political-diplomatic and material support has been confirmed,” the statement posted on the MFA RF website says.
As noted, the heads of foreign policy departments held a “quick meeting” on current issues of the bilateral agenda in a friendly and constructive manner, exchanging views on regional and international problems.
“The invariability of the position of both countries regarding the inadmissibility of the use of unilateral sanctions measures under the UN Charter has been noted,” emphasized the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. –0–
