Beijing, May 15 /Xinhua/ — Chairman of the NPC Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump held in-depth exchanges of views on key issues concerning the two countries and the world, and reached a series of new consensuses, an official spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC said on Friday.
A Chinese diplomat made such comments in connection with the current visit of D. Trump to China, which became the first visit of a U.S. president to the PRC in the last nine years and the second visit of D. Trump since November 2017.
The heads of the two states agreed to consider the construction of Chinese-American relations of constructive strategic stability as a new positioning of relations between the two countries. This will serve as a strategic guideline for bilateral relations for the next three years and even for a longer-term perspective, will contribute to the stable, healthy, and sustainable development of Chinese-American relations, and will bring more peace, prosperity, and progress to the whole world, the official representative stated.
The heads of the two states reached an important consensus regarding the proper resolution of each other’s concerns, and agreed to strengthen contacts and coordination on international and regional issues, the official representative added.
The interaction of the heads of two states contributed to deepening mutual understanding, strengthened mutual trust, facilitated practical cooperation, as well as improved the welfare of the peoples of both countries and brought to the world such unusual stability and certainty.
D. Trump is on a three-day state visit to China. On Thursday, Xi Jinping held a welcome ceremony and a welcome banquet in honor of D. Trump, and also conducted negotiations with him, and together they visited the Temple of Heaven. -0-
