In the flow of daily tasks and endless notifications on smartphone screens, we often do not notice what is happening around us, and those who are traveling with us in the same carriage. The specifics of life in a metropolis close our eyes, but a trip to the metro remains a unique opportunity to see the most diverse and interesting people. A vivid proof of this is the new exhibition “The Aesthetics of Everyday Life,” which opened in the passage between the “Petrovsky Park” and “Dynamo” stations of the Large Circle Line.

New exhibition in the Moscow metro: The aesthetics of everyday life and unexpected faces of passengers.

Over the course of three years, photographer Anton Raskolnikov photographed passengers of the Moscow metro. His attention was attracted by people in bright and unusual images. Many portraits are based on visual contrast, for example, between the color of clothing and the interior of the carriage.

Anton Raskolnikov himself, speaking about the appearance of the exhibition idea, notes: “The most unexpected thing — is not the photographs. But how a person changes in these few seconds. You approach a tired passenger, but in the camera someone else is already looking. I’m not sure this can be explained with text. That’s why — it’s better to come and carefully look at each photograph. The images presented here are a social report. An attempt to stop time and show that human beauty is always nearby, it rides with us in the same train car.”

The exhibition was timed to coincide with the birthday of the Moscow Metro. This is especially symbolic: the photographs show how passengers live 91 years after the opening of the main transport artery of the capital. The exhibition will be open until May 26, hurry up to see it!
