On May 7, more than a hundred people gathered at the Memorial Stone on the territory of GUU to lay flowers and pay tribute to the heroes who won the victory in 1945 at the cost of their own lives. It is especially important that veterans of the Great Patriotic War, the war in Afghanistan, and the special military operation attended.
The meeting was opened by the Vice-Rector of GUU Dmitry Bryukhanov, who noted the university’s role in solving the state’s tasks of the past and present and drew parallels between the Great Patriotic War and the events happening in the world today.
Vice-rector Pavel Pavlovsky shared the military history of his family, told how he worked with foreign students at Mamaev Kurgan, and reminded about the international festival “Family History. Immortal Memory,” which is held on the initiative of the GUP.
The importance of unity and peace was emphasized by the chief of staff of the 40th army during the Afghan war, Lieutenant General Norat Ter-Grigoryants.
“Both teachers, youth, and all attendees must make efforts to strengthen friendship and brotherhood among peoples. When people from other countries see that the Russian people are peaceful, decent, and strive for peace, they will understand that they need to be friends with us, not fight.”
Veteran of the special military operation Andrey Goldobaev called to remember the feats of ancestors and not to allow the repetition of the horrors of that war.
“For every person, Victory Day is connected with their personal story. Everyone who fought deserves pride and respect. They are all heroes. We must not forget their feat, because forgetting our history could mean losing our Motherland.”
After a minute of silence, those gathered laid flowers at the memorial and headed to the GUU Business Center, where they awaited the festive concert, an exhibition of wartime artifacts from the GUU Museum, and a display of works by the winners of the patriotic contest “Family Story. Immortal Memory.”
Before the creative part began, a veteran of the Great Patriotic War, honored test pilot of the USSR Viktor Kirsanov, came on stage and shared his emotions on this festive day:
“This is data that tickles the eyes and the heart, but nonetheless 81 years ago people cried exactly from happiness, because back then they won and will continue to win ahead of all those who encroach on our Motherland, and we do not need foreign land.”
The veteran of the Special Military Operation Alexey Balirev reminded that the darkest and most tragic times are always followed by bright ones, and wished the young generation of GUE students to become that very light and the driving force of history.
At the concert, songs of wartime years and thematic performances were performed by students of the GUU preduniversity and the Large Children’s Choir named after S.V. Popov.
Let us remind you that the State University of Management regularly holds events aimed at patriotic education and the preservation of historical truth, and also participates in federal campaigns #ScientificRegiment, #VictoryLetters, and others.
