Kuala Lumpur, May 13 /Sin Hua/ — A boat with 37 illegal migrants on board sank near Pangkor Island in western Malaysia, 14 people are reported missing. This was reported on Tuesday by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency /MMEA/.

According to a statement by the director of the MMEA in the state of Perak, Muhammad Shukri Khutob, the incident was reported by a Malaysian fisherman who found and rescued 23 survivors near an island in the state of Perak. Currently, the authorities are conducting a search for the remaining 14 people.

“The preliminary investigation also showed that the migrants left Indonesian Kisaran on May 9 and headed to several destinations in Malaysia, including Penang, Terengganu, Selangor, and Kuala Lumpur,” said the official, adding that the MMSA deployed boats, helicopters, and reconnaissance aircraft to search for the missing persons.”–0–
