Tehran, May 12 /Xinhua/ — The Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, said on Tuesday that the United States has no other alternative but to recognize the rights of the Iranian people.
This statement was made after US President Donald Trump on Monday rejected Iran’s Sunday response to the US peace proposal and warned that the ceasefire regime between the two countries “depends on artificial life support.”
“There is no alternative other than to recognize the rights of the Iranian people, as set out in the Iran proposal consisting of 14 points,” wrote M. B. Kalibaf on the social network X.
“The longer they delay, the more American taxpayers will have to pay for it,” he added.
On Monday, M. B. Kalibaf also stated on the social network X that the armed forces of Iran are ready to “teach a lesson” in response to any aggression, emphasizing that the country “is prepared for all options,” and “they will be surprised.”
On Sunday, Iran sent Pakistan, acting as a mediator in conflict resolution, its response to the latest US proposal for a ceasefire plan.
Commenting on Iran’s peace proposal at the weekly Monday press conference, MFA official Esmail Bagai stated that the country seeks adherence exclusively to the “legal” rights of its people.
After 40 days of hostilities, which began with joint attacks by the USA and Israel on Tehran and other Iranian cities on February 28, Iran, the United States, and Israel reached ceasefire agreements on April 8.
After the ceasefire agreement, the delegations of Iran and the USA held a round of peace negotiations in the capital of Pakistan, Islamabad, on April 11 and 12, which did not lead to an agreement.
Over the past weeks, both sides, as reported, exchanged several proposed options through Pakistan’s mediation, outlining the terms for ending the conflict. Donald Trump called Iran’s response to the latest U.S. proposed option to end the war “absolutely unacceptable.” –0–
