Beijing, May 11 /Xinhua/ — On Sunday, the installation of T-shaped beams began as part of the construction of a cross-border railway bridge, which will become part of the second China-Mongolia cross-border railway. This was reported on Monday by the Chinese daily newspaper “Naiman Gol Daily.”
This railway line will pass through the border at the Gantsimaodu border post in the Inner Mongolia / Northern China autonomous region and connect with the Gashuun Sukhait station in the South Gobi province of Mongolia. It will become the second transboundary railway between China and Mongolia after the opening of the Erenhot (Inner Mongolia, China) – Zamyn-Üüd (Mongolia) railway in 1956.
The construction of the Ganchimaodu – Gashuunsai railway with a total length of 9.91 km began in May 2025. In particular, the total length of the cross-border bridge section will be 6.08 km, and at the same time, a total of 760 T-shaped beams will need to be installed.
It is reported that as of today, 268 T-shaped beams have been manufactured, and in October of the current year, all work on installing similar beams on the bridge can already be completed.
This project is jointly promoted by two countries in accordance with the principles of “unified design, separate construction, and simultaneous connection.” The section of the railway on the territory of China is planned to be built and opened for operation in 2027.
It is expected that after the project’s completion, the freight volume on this railway will reach 30 million tons per year. This will not only allow the railway connecting Gantsimaodu – Wanshuyuan (Baotou city) to Inner Mongolia to be linked with Mongolia’s railway mainline, but it will also facilitate the further expansion of trade volumes in the corresponding spheres of the two countries, as well as strengthen the interconnected infrastructure and trade-economic relations between the two states. -0-
