Moscow, May 10 /Xin Hua/ — The Russian private company Space Energy plans to start construction of a cosmodrome for launching super light rockets in Primorsky Krai in 2026. This was reported on Sunday by RIA Novosti with reference to the company’s press service.
According to the project, the cosmodrome will allow launching up to 50 light rockets per year. Several launch pads are planned to be placed at the facility. The cosmodrome will be intended for launches of the super-light carrier rocket “Orbita,” developed by Space Energy. The first flight is planned for 2027, but if the project is successfully implemented, it could happen already this year.
It is reported that the rocket is capable of delivering up to 250 kg of payload to low Earth orbit and up to 150 kg to a Sun-synchronous orbit/ orbit with an altitude of 600-800 km, over which a satellite passes over any point on the planet at the same local time.
The company explained that the choice of Primorsky Krai is due to the ballistic advantages of its geographical location. This location allows for the effective deployment of devices into solar-synchronous and polar orbits, while ensuring the safe fall of rocket stages into the sea.
Space Energy CEO Georgy Emelin noted that the creation of private spaceports is a global trend. “Russia, as a pioneering country in space, should not remain on the sidelines of these processes,” he added.
